The ABC Music standard

The ABC Music standard was originally written by Chris Walshaw. However, Chris stopped working on the standard a few years back. The latest official standard is version 1.6, available at Chris' website. There has been a draft for a revised standard (with version number 1.7.6 and dated 08/05/00), but it never acquired an "official" status.

Recently, an effort was started by Guido Gonzato to compile a new version of the standard. He published a draft (with version number 2.0) on the ABCPlus website. Now, Irwin Oppenheim has taken over editing the draft standard, that is currently under discussion on the abcusers mailing list.
